What I Did on My Saturday Afternoon

Author: administrator

Sorry…long time, no post. I always feel so disappointed when I go to check on my favorite bloggers and find no updates, so I truly do apologize to the whole 3 of you the check in regularly. Hee.

We’ve been keeping pretty busy ’round these parts.  Illness (just me, don’t worry), school meetings, overtime at work, etc.  The boys have been busy growing and changing as well…Seth is walking now, and saying a few important words (Papa! though rarely Mama, and more! because food is good).  He also nods emphatically and says “ya!” when he wants something.  Joe thinks it’s hilarious to test his affirmative responses by asking him ridiculous things, like if he wants donkey hooves to tap out a hip-hop version of “I Could Have Danced All Night” on his femur, but I sit in quiet disapproval of this practice.  Max is reading at a fourth-grade level, y’all.  So if you’re thinking “books” for gifts, you’ll have to look for something more advanced than Dr. Seuss.  Ha.  (p.s. He still loves those kind of books, so I’m pretty much just kidding.)  Oliver has made some strides in the effort to regulate/normalize/act like a human instead of a chimp.  We’ve rejoined an Early Childhood class while we wait for potty training to come to a most successful conclusion in the attempt to add structure to the feral boy’s life.  It requires he wear clothing for an entire two hours, which is in itself a huge feat.  He loves it, though, and his teachers even if he finds the discipline of schedules and classroom rules to be challenging.  It’s getting there, though.

I thought I’d share some of what we did last Saturday afternoon with you, dear readers.  Our roads diverged in a yellow wood.  The 3 elder boys took a hike in the Fort Snelling/Mississippi area with Godpapa Charlie.  And I…I took the one less traveled by.  Here’s a re-enactment:

reenactment...not actual picture of napping.

(Seth took this less-traveled path as well, though technically for him it is the path more traveled, since that lucky bloke naps EVERY. DAY.)

So meanwhile, the older boys enjoyed a day outdoors with one of our adventure-some, outdoorsman-like friends.  This is a good thing for them (Joe included) as they all like it and it is not my cuppa.

I tried to coax Joe into doing a guest blog entry about the day, but he is too shy or illiterate or busy or something, so he deferred and that’s why I can say whatever I want about what happened.  I think there were wild turkeys (sadly, none came home for Thanksgiving. Max told me that wasn’t a good idea anyway, as “we don’t like to kill”. We just like to eat things someone else killed, I guess.)  Also a herd of deer.  When I asked Oliver he said there were butterflies, frogs, lizards, and monkeys.  Yeah.  I know there was the initiation into the fraternal brotherhood of Beef Jerky aficionados, and probably some outdoor peeing.  See what fun guys have when left to their own devices?

Ahhhhhhh.

And see what fun I have when left to mine?

Grampa Steve wants to know if the guys killed something and cooked it over a fire and ate it half raw while grunting and juice running down their chins? whatever the saying. I love the pictures – Joe is a great dad and you’re a terrific momma. xxoo
